Castlio Elementary Raises Nearly $3,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation

During Castlio Elementary’s recent Make-A-Wish Week, students got to participate in spirit events with a different theme each day. Students were encouraged to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and each student who brought in $20 or more had the opportunity to throw a pie in face of a principal! This year, those tempting targets helped Castlio raise $2,940. “Each year, the Castlio Community participates in a variety of outreach opportunities to impact our community and beyond,” said Principal Dr. Bridgett Niedringhaus. “One of the local charities that we like to support is the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and we had 82 pie throwers!”

The entire school was outside, if only to catch a glimpse of their favorite principal getting a little pie to the face.
Assistant Principal Tim Scholle was ready to face the music. “On a scale of one to ten, my excitement level was a fifteen, it was pretty high. It’s a great fundraiser, and the kids did a great job. Kids get a real sense of accomplishment, and the satisfaction knowing that they did something to help a student that is sick.”

The Castlio Student Council organizes the event, and is sponsored by Andrea Hamp and Erica Rife. Helping other students fulfill a dream can be very sweet – in many ways!
