MAP Testing Begins

The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) testing for students in the Francis Howell School District will take place during the month of April. MAP tests are mandated by the state, and are intended to help determine what a child knows and is able to do according to the expectations for his or her grade level. Scores on the MAP tests are also used to determine how schools are performing according to state and federal guidelines.

Castlio and FHC Students Take Part in National Teacher Training Video

There has to be a better way – that’s what many teachers realize when dealing with challenging behavior from students. Trauma specialists have begun production on a nationally-distributed training video for teachers, recording potential solutions to these issues. Students at two Francis Howell School District (FHSD) schools are getting the opportunity to participate by performing roles in the video. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get some face-time in a video, and also help teachers reach better solutions.

It’s that time of year to be thankful, but it’s also that time of year for something else – toy shopping. But not everyone has the resources to get their child the latest and greatest toys on the market. The United States Marine Corps began the Toys for Tots program in 1995 to foster a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters. This message will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens; and assist them in becoming citizens like U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal Phillip Vinnedge.
Castlio Elementary Recognized by National Organization for Community Outreach

One thing that Castlio Elementary, part of the Francis Howell School District, does extremely well is reaching out to its community. Their recent Health and Wellness Fair modeled for the nation one way a school like Castlio can support the people who live around them, earning them recognition in NNPS’s newsletter, which is distributed nationally.
FHSD Schools Celebrate National Red Ribbon Week

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) will be dipped in red the week of Oct. 24-28, as schools across the District and the nation celebrate Red Ribbon Week, an event dedicated to raising awareness for alcohol, tobacco, drugs and violence prevention. Many FHSD schools will educate students on drug prevention with special events, activities and fun-themed spirit days.

New FHSD Safety Measures Include Unannounced Intruder Drills

Student safety is always a top priority of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD). The District annually conducts a variety of safety drills including fire, tornado, earthquake and intruder drills. Participation in these safety drills is where most students get directly involved in their own safety. New this year, FHSD will conduct one unannounced intruder drill at each of our schools
Castlio History Wax Museum Brings History to Life

It is the goal of every history teacher to make history come alive for students, to give them the opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of our ancestors. Wax museums were created centuries ago to allow people to pay respects “in person” to a fallen royal or others worthy of adoration. And the wax museum created by fifth grade students at Castlio Elementary is something to adore.
Castlio Elementary Sisters Honored with Good Citizenship Award

Castlio students Nora Sage Spellman and her sister Brielle Spellman are great examples of compassion and dedication, and they help prove that supporting a good cause is possible at any age. The two sisters were honored with the Good Citizenship Award last month, after hosting a LemonAID stand fundraiser and collecting $1,545 to support two special causes: The BackStoppers and Ballwin Officer Mike Flamion.
FHSD Recognized for Bus Safety

The buses that safely transport students of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) every day will display a special new sticker starting in August, after earning the “Total Fleet Excellence” distinction for 2016. The stickers indicate excellence in the overall maintenance and reliability of the District’s bus fleet. The distinction is determined by the Missouri State Highway Patrol based on the results of the annual school bus inspection, a program conducted by the Patrol’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Division.
