About Us

The Learning Commons is a flexible, learner-centered space where collaboration, inquiry, imagination, and creation expand and deepen learning.

MISSION:

Our mission is to guide students and staff to be effective and ethical researchers and users of ideas and information. Our program promotes the love of reading and develops 21st century skills.

VISION:

We envision a physical and virtual space where all learners discover, create, inquire, and think critically to produce and communicate new knowledge both independently and collaboratively.

Through the promotion of literature and the teaching of 21st Century skills, Castlio Learning Commons strives to help all students develop and enhance their abilities to read for pleasure and to build the skills needed to find and use information effectively and creatively in their lives.

Castlio Elementary Learning Commons is home to thousands of print books and now hosts over 1000 eBooks in its collection. Students may check out books for two weeks at a time and may renew their books as needed.

Our Learning Commons has one full time library media specialist and one full time library paraprofessional who serve over 1000 student, staff, and parent patrons. In 2013, the Learning Commons welcomed two 21st Century Learning Asssistants to its team--one full-time and one part-time.

Some classes visit the Learning Commons regularly for checking out books. Research and information lessons are scheduled separately with the librarian. Students needing to use the space or resources for research, collaborative projects, or book checkout are permitted to visit any time during the school day with teacher permission.

Outside of the physical Learning Commons walls and beyond the school day, patrons can continue to enjoy reading and find useful information through the use of our eBook collection, many databases, and recommended websites.  We hope you find this Virtual Library Learning Commons helpful in locating what you need.
